Is there that one room in your house that never seems to be as cold as the others? Maybe your children's bedroom is 10-15 degrees cooler than your living room? We’ve all been there and living in South Florida can make this an uncomfortable situation especially since our climates are typically warmer than the majority of the country. So what’s the reason for differences in temperature when all the rooms are under the same roof? Let us review the four reasons why one room can be hotter than the rest of the rooms in the house. Let's also determine whether we can diagnose these issues or if we need an air conditioning expert like the ones at Engineered Air. Reasons Why One Room Is Hotter Than The Rest Of The House 1. Insulation If you’ve lived in Florida for an extended period, you know all about Insulation, But why is it so important and why does it affect whether or not one room is hotter than another? Improper setup or uneven insulation could be the cause. Proper insulation helps keep rooms cooler during the sweltering summer days by keeping the warmer weather out. Also, Proper insulation will keep energy bills lower and create less strain on your AC unit. For more information on insulation or to determine if an expert is needed, please refer to our expert guide on insulation. 2. Old Windows Do you have older, single-pane windows throughout your home? Double-pane windows can help to reflect some of the sun's rays in individual rooms of your house. Having energy efficient, double-pane windows could drastically reduce the amount of energy required to keep your home at an adequate and comfortable temperature. One neat trick for determining which type of window you currently have is to hold a match or lighter close to the window. If you have a single-pane window, you’ll only see one reflection created by the flame. With a double-pane or triple-pane, you’ll see two or three reflections. 3. Ductwork There’s a few reasons why ductwork could be creating uneven temperatures throughout your home. Poor duct design, non-insulated ducts and/or air duct leaks are common culprits. Ducts help distribute cooler air across your home and if the ductwork is not designed well or if the air is leaking, it’ll make certain rooms warmer. Luckily, we have a few tips on how to tell if your ducts are leaking and if it may be best to give the experts at Engineered Air a call. 4. Common Problems Air Filters - It’s recommended that your air filter be changed once a month as this is the lungs of your AC system and can cause massive issues if neglected. A clogged air filter could also affect air distribution. Open Windows Vents Closed - If the vent in a particular room is closed, cooler air won’t flow in properly. Engineered Air wants to keep you cool and comfortable year-round. If you have any questions about anything listed above, contact your local professionals at Engineered Air today!
