3 Summer Drink Recipes to Cool You Down

1. Cucumber Pineapple Tequila Cooler

If you live in South Florida, chances are you’ve had your fair share of frozen or iced margaritas. So why not change things up with your tequila drink? Try the following recipe for a cucumber pineapple tequila cooler.

What You’ll Need

1 cup fresh pineapple cubes

2 limes, skin removed

1 seedless European cucumber, peeled

Cucumber slices for garnish

4 ounces silver/blanco tequila

1-1/2 cups ice cubes, plus extra for serving

1 tablespoon agave nectar

Pinch of salt

How to Make It

Take your vegetable juicer or blender and run the pineapple, limes and cucumber inside until the juices of them combine together in a smooth blend. Then add the juices, ice, agave and salt with the tequila in a cocktail shaker or pitcher and shake or stir vigorously. Pour into four tall glasses filled with ice and serve with straws and garnish.

2. Watermelon Lemonade Slushie

For a family-friendly, ice-cold drink, make a DIY slushie with fresh watermelon! Follow these steps to make a frozen drink perfect for family gatherings, cookouts and more.

What You’ll Need

2 pounds cubed watermelon (about 4 cups)

1/2 cup sugar

1 large bunch of basil, stems and leaves roughly chopped (about 2 cups), plus 4 whole leaves for garnish

Juice of 3 lemons (about 1/2 cup)

How to Make It

Your first step is to freeze the watermelon in a single layer for about two hours. While you wait, heat up the sugar and 1/2 cup of water in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Heat it up until the sugar has melted completely, which should only take about five minutes.

Once you turn off the heat, add in the chopped basil and stir until the basil wilts. Leave out in room temperature to cool, which may take at least an hour.

Once your watermelon is completely frozen, blend half of it. Then strain the basil syrup in the blender and discard the basil. Blend it all with the lemon juice until it’s mostly smooth before bringing in the remaining watermelon pieces to blend until the mixture is completely smooth. And that’s it! Spoon the mixture into four short glasses, garnishing each one with a basil leaf.

For someone who likes beer but also has a bit of a sweet tooth, try the ginger-peach beer cooler! Refreshing, fruity and perfectly cool for that summer day by the pool in the hot South Florida sun.

What You’ll Need

Three 12-ounce bottles chilled beer (best with a light or mild beer)

3 cups chilled peach nectar

2 fresh peaches, pitted and cut into wedges

3/4 cup ginger simple syrup

How to Make It

This one’s easy: pour all ingredients into a pitcher, stir and serve.
